We buried a Goat.

One misty morning...

......a friend came to visit.

She stepped in the door and I said,
"We have to burry a goat"

She said,
"sure, let me get my coat"

So with a wheelbarrow full of Goat, shovels in hand, we headed down amongst the red-gums.

We dug and we talked. You never know the things you can talk about while digging a hole to bury a goat. Hurt, pain, love and hope. All wrapped up in a bundle of words that swirled with the earth, and the air, while we worked. It was natural and easy.

I said "thats deep enough"

She said "we need to go six feet.... like for a human don't we?"

We looked at the goat, then at the hole and then at each other.

And then.... laughed.

We lay that goat in the ground. Lay it to rest. Covered it with soil, with words, with love, with hurt, with pain,... and with hope.

Thankyou dear friend for helping me lay some things to rest. x

The moon was beautiful.

  1. Just to be clear, the goat died of natural causes. You know.... just in case... some one thought there was some weird sacrifice thing going on here... All coincidence... I tell ya.

She was old, and she was sick. We miss her.

The universe works in mysterious ways.

  2. Oh Rex, you've had so much pain and sadness to deal with lately. I've been thinking of you lots but unable to post over the last few weeks as I felt I didn't know enough about the subject but then realised that what we need in times like this is a friend to help. Glad that you had someone to help with your very photogenic goat. Looking forward to catching up and talking about all things goat, house, kids and friends...

    1. So sweet of you Kylie. I know its been a big subject and process. It was so hard to write about but I could not hold on to it, especially living back here. I suppose it forces you to face things. thanks for your lovely thoughts and we have been thinking of you guys too. Wondering how the new house and property is coming along! x

  3. There's something about burying a creature, no matter what species, that allows so much of your process to unfold and take place naturally. Sad to know Flower is gone, but something tells me she had the perfect goat life. Love to you all. xo

    1. She did Nell. The kids adored her, but she was a bit cagey, hadn't been handled much. But we made friends, She was probably 10 years old.

The coincidences that took place were quite amazing. A natural end and beginning to a few things. x
